Pink Noise Generator

A pink-noise generator supplies a test signal used to assess and adjust a sound system's frequency balance.

Pink noise has equal energy in equal-width octave bands, making it useful with an audio analyzer. Built-in room-measurement facilities may instead use another specified test signal, such as a warble tone. The signal type and measurement procedure matter.

Pink Noise Generator — Equalizer

A built-in generator provides a repeatable signal when checking the equalizer and the loudspeaker-room response. It can support adjustment by measurement, or listening where the instructions provide for it. A room-measurement test generator may use warble tones rather than literal pink noise, so read the stated signal type.

Compare the generator's functions with the measurement method you intend to use. Its presence does not establish an analyzer, automatic correction or a supplied microphone. A playback tone-control preset is not a generator. Follow the specified test level and setup; the generator itself does not determine the appropriate equalization.
