Platter Mat Material
The material of the separate platter mat supplied for the record to rest on.
The mat is a distinct layer placed on the platter. Its material differs from the platter’s structural material or a bonded playing surface, and some decks are designed to use no mat.
Platter Mat Material — Turntable
For a Turntable, mat material describes the supplied record-contact layer, such as felt, rubber, cork, leather or another specified material. It can affect handling and the physical interface between the record and platter.
Check the standard package and whether the named surface is a removable mat. An optional replacement should not be treated as supplied, while a bonded top layer belongs to the platter construction. If several mats are included, retain that distinction rather than choosing one arbitrarily.
Compare material with thickness and setup requirements. Changing thickness alters the record’s height relative to the arm. Material alone does not rank sound, and unspecified material is different from an explicit no-mat design.
