Platter Material
Platter Material identifies the material or materials forming the turntable’s record-support platform. A layered platter can have more than one material.
Material contributes to mass, stiffness and vibration behaviour, but thickness, shape, damping and the rest of the design also matter.

Common descriptions include aluminium, acrylic, glass and composites. Read the actual construction rather than assuming that every platter with the same material name behaves alike. A metal platter with a bonded acrylic layer is different from a loose acrylic mat placed on top.
Keep the platter distinct from its sub-platter, spindle, bearing and removable mat. Their materials describe other parts. Likewise, a finish or colour does not establish the underlying material, and a phrase such as high-mass is not a material name.
Use the manufacturer’s guidance for mats, record contact and cleaning. No material label alone guarantees quieter operation, better speed accuracy or a preferred sound.
