Platter Weight
Platter Weight is the mass of the turntable’s rotating record-support platform, commonly stated in kilograms. It is separate from the weight of the complete deck.
Mass contributes to rotational inertia, the resistance to changes in rotation, but its distance from the axis matters too. Equal masses need not have equal inertia.
Platter Weight — Turntable
Read which parts the quoted figure includes. A main platter, sub-platter, mat and bearing may be listed separately or combined. Preserve that qualification when comparing two turntables; do not add a record clamp or accessory weight to the platter figure.
A heavier platter places different demands on the bearing and drive system. Its mass alone does not establish speed stability, vibration behaviour or better playback: those depend on the complete design.
Use the specified handling and assembly procedure. The platter figure helps you understand the rotating assembly, not the load rating needed for furniture supporting the whole turntable.
