Playback Speeds
Playback Speeds lists the record rotation rates the supplied turntable can select, in revolutions per minute (rpm), such as 33⅓, 45 or 78 rpm.
Match the selected speed to the record. Playing at the wrong speed changes both timing and pitch.
Playback Speeds — Turntable
Check the actual named speeds, not just a two-speed or three-speed label. A supported speed may require moving a belt or fitting a pulley supplied with the deck; electronic speed selection is a separate convenience feature.
An optional part sold separately does not make that speed part of the supplied configuration. A speed reached only through fine pitch adjustment is also different from a documented playback-speed setting. The motor’s own rotation rate is not the platter’s record speed.
Speed support alone does not establish suitable playback for every record. For 78 rpm records in particular, check the required stylus, cartridge and equalization before playing; selecting 78 does not supply those functions.
