Rated Power Output

Power Output is the continuous electrical output power an amplifier delivers into its rated load, expressed in watts.

The figure needs its load and measurement conditions. Continuous output differs from short-duration or peak ratings, so numbers described in different ways should not be compared as though they measure the same operating capability. Input power drawn from the mains is also a different quantity.

Rated Power Output — Subwoofer

For a powered subwoofer, this describes the amplifier driving its built-in bass driver. More rated watts alone do not establish deeper bass or a higher clean sound level. Driver efficiency, enclosure design, excursion limits and protective processing also affect the acoustic result.

Compare output figures with similar rating methods and operating conditions. If a product lists both continuous and peak power, keep those labels attached to their values. The amplifier rating does not tell you the subwoofer’s frequency response, distortion or maximum output at a particular bass frequency; those require separate acoustic information.
