Rated Power into 16 Ohms

Rated Power into 16 Ohms states an amplifier’s electrical output in watts (W) into a specified 16-ohm load.

A stereo rating of 2 × 25 W means 25 W per channel. For a fair comparison, match the frequency range, distortion limit, number of channels driven together and operating mode.

Rated Power into 16 Ohms — Power Amp

A speaker terminal marked 16 Ω identifies a load connection, not a wattage. On amplifiers with output transformers, these connections are often called taps. Do not halve an 8-ohm rating to fill a missing 16-ohm figure: some amplifiers deliver the same rated power through their different taps. Check the manufacturer’s power ratings and speaker-connection instructions.

Peak or burst figures describe brief output, not sustained power. Keep a stereo amplifier’s converted mono-mode rating separate from its stereo rating. If duration is unspecified, do not assume the figure describes continuous output.
