Rated Power into 6 Ohms

Rated Power into 6 Ohms states an amplifier’s output in watts (W) per channel into a specified 6-ohm test load.

A stereo rating of 2 × 50 W means 50 W from each channel. A speaker labelled 6 ohms does not remain a fixed 6-ohm load: its impedance varies with frequency.

Compare the same load, frequency range, number of channels driven together, distortion limit and test duration. THD means total harmonic distortion. A single-frequency test or a higher distortion allowance can give a different figure. Missing conditions remain unknown; check the maker’s documentation.

Continuous output is sustained under stated conditions; burst or dynamic power covers brief peaks and cannot establish sustained output. Do not calculate a missing 6-ohm rating from 4- and 8-ohm figures. Bridged operation combines channels and needs its own rating. A 6-ohm rating cannot guarantee every speaker match: check the amplifier manual’s permitted speaker loads.
