Preamp Output Mode

Preamp output mode describes whether a headphone amplifier's line outputs follow its volume control or provide a fixed level.

Variable outputs let the unit control listening level for a downstream amplifier or active speakers. Fixed outputs bypass that volume adjustment. A switchable arrangement offers both behaviours, either through a setting or through separate fixed and variable outputs.

Preamp Output Mode — Headphone Amp

A variable line output allows a headphone amplifier to act as the volume-control stage in a speaker system. A fixed output instead passes a line-level signal onward for another component to control. The headphone socket's own volume behaviour does not establish how the rear line outputs work.

Compare the documented mode of the output and confirm where system volume will be controlled. An output labelled 'line out' is not automatically variable. Where fixed and variable options coexist, identify which is connected before playback. Socket count describes connection provision, while this specification describes the signal-level behaviour.
