Rated Bandwidth

Rated bandwidth is the frequency range over which a cable is specified to meet its transmission requirements.

It is commonly expressed in megahertz for electrical data cabling. Frequency bandwidth and data rate in bits per second are different quantities.

Rated Bandwidth — Ethernet Cable

For an Ethernet cable, bandwidth is part of the cable’s transmission specification. The network system uses signalling and coding to carry data within the supported electrical conditions.

Compare the same category and measurement basis rather than treating a megahertz value as a megabit-per-second rate. A wider cable bandwidth alone does not establish a particular Ethernet speed across every length or connector arrangement. The complete channel and connected ports must support the intended mode.
