Reception Aids

Reception aids are the indicators and controls that help a tuner find, assess or improve reception of a radio station.

They can show signal strength, tuning accuracy or multipath, or alter how the tuner handles the incoming signal. Different aids solve different reception problems, so a longer feature list is not automatically better.

Reception Aids — Tuner

A signal-strength meter helps assess antenna level, while centre-tuning and multipath indicators provide different information. Mono or high-blend controls can reduce stereo hiss, and an RF attenuator can help with very strong signals. These controls change reception behavior rather than adding missing broadcast coverage.

Compare the specific aids needed for the antenna and local conditions. More signal strength does not necessarily mean less multipath. An attenuator is not a weak-signal booster, and high blend can reduce stereo separation. A recording-calibration tone helps set a recorder's level; it does not measure reception. Bandwidth selection and RDS information are separate features.
