Recommended Amplifier Power
The manufacturer’s suggested external amplifier output, in watts per channel, for driving a passive loudspeaker or passive section.
A range gives lower and upper recommendations; a minimum alone supplies no upper limit. This differs from power handling: how much input the speaker can withstand under specified conditions.
Recommended Amplifier Power — Loudspeaker
Compare amplifier output at the relevant speaker impedance. Check that the amplifier supports the speaker’s minimum impedance, where the electrical load can become more demanding.
Sensitivity describes sound level for a stated input. Lower sensitivity, greater listening distance or louder playback can require more power. The recommendation is guidance, not a guarantee against damage.
An overloaded amplifier can clip, cutting off signal peaks and producing potentially damaging distortion. Turn down distorted playback and follow the equipment’s limits.
With powered bass and passive mid/high drivers, the recommendation concerns the externally driven mid/high section, not the built-in bass amplifier.
