Recording Sample Rates (Analog Input)

Analogue-input recording sample rates are the rates a digital tape recorder uses when converting analogue audio to digital samples.

The rate is measured in kilohertz, or thousands of samples per second. Analogue recording uses a conversion path that may offer different rates from digital-input recording or playback. A supported playback rate does not establish recording support.

Recording Sample Rates (Analog Input) — Digital Tape Recorder

This specification answers which rates can be selected when recording from line or microphone inputs. For example, a machine may offer one rate in operation and another in long-play mode. A rate accepted from a digital source is a separate capability.

Compare the analogue recording modes supported, including any high-sampling mode and its restrictions. Do not infer 44.1 kHz analogue recording simply because a recorder plays or digitally records that rate. Check recording time and format compatibility alongside sample rate. A higher rate alone does not establish better conversion, lower noise or more accurate analogue circuitry.
