Selectable Digital Filters

Selectable digital filters let the user choose among available digital reconstruction-filter responses.

Different responses can make different tradeoffs in frequency and time behaviour. The filter choice is separate from the supported audio sample rate or bit depth.

Selectable Digital Filters — Upscaler

On an upscaler, the selected filter shapes the digital interpolation or reconstruction processing applied before output. The available choices depend on the design and may be tied to particular input formats or operating modes.

Compare the described response of each mode and check which signal paths it affects. A filter name alone does not provide a universal ranking of sound quality. Do not confuse reconstruction filters with tone controls, room equalization or crossover filters, which serve different purposes; also check whether the receiving DAC applies its own processing.
