Server Software
The music-library server applications supplied or installed to run on the device.
Server software organises or delivers a library to playback devices. Control apps, streaming subscriptions and player compatibility describe different parts of the system.
Server Software — Music Server
On a Music Server, the named software helps determine how you browse your collection and which players can access it. Different server applications can offer different library tools and network playback methods, even when they run on similar hardware.
Distinguish software hosted by the server from software it merely works with. For example, running Roon Server is different from acting as a Roon Ready playback device. An optional installation should not be assumed to be supplied or activated.
Compare the software with your existing players and preferred library workflow. Check any separate licence requirements and the manufacturer’s supported setup. A software name alone does not establish processing speed, long-term support or sound quality.
