Ethernet (SFP Fiber) Port
The number of SFP cages or specified fibre-network ports provided for an Ethernet network connection.
A fibre Ethernet connection carries network data. It is different from optical audio connections such as TOSLINK or ST, and an SFP cage may require a separately supplied module.
Ethernet (SFP Fiber) Port — Streamer
On a Streamer, a fibre Ethernet port offers a network route to music services and local servers. It replaces or supplements a copper network connection according to the product’s supported setup.
Check the specified module, link speed and required network equipment. A bare SFP cage may be supplied without the optical transceiver. TOSLINK and other optical audio inputs carry different signals and cannot be substituted for the network connection.
Compare the port with the network link you can provide. Its presence does not establish universal module compatibility, additional music-format support or improved sound; those depend on the complete product and connection.
Ethernet (SFP Fiber) Port — Music Server
On a Music Server, a fibre-network port provides a network connection for library access, control and supported streaming functions. It may connect the server to suitable network equipment using an optical module and fibre cable.
Read the count for explicitly identified network ports. Check the supported module type, link speed and whether a module is included. An RJ45 Ethernet socket or optical USB connection is not an additional fibre-network port.
Compare the connection with your network equipment and the manufacturer’s requirements. SFP support does not imply compatibility with every transceiver, and the port alone does not establish higher audio quality or faster library performance.
