Shielded
Shielded construction uses a conductive layer or arrangement intended to reduce coupling of unwanted interference.
Shielding is distinct from the conductors carrying the intended signal and from the outer protective jacket. A decorative braid is not necessarily an electrical shield.
Shielded — Speaker Cable
On a loudspeaker cable, a shield describes an additional construction feature around the signal conductors. How it is connected or terminated is part of the cable’s intended arrangement.
Compare the actual shielding design and any termination instructions rather than assuming all shielded cables are equivalent. Shielding alone does not specify conductor resistance, capacitance or amplifier compatibility. Do not improvise a connection between the shield and a speaker terminal or chassis; use the arrangement specified for the cable and equipment.
