Shock-Resistant Memory
Shock-resistant memory is the playback buffer duration available to keep MiniDisc audio running through brief interruptions to disc reading.
The player reads ahead and stores audio, allowing playback to continue during a reading disturbance. Duration is given in seconds and can depend on recording mode because different modes consume stored data at different rates.

The buffer helps prevent audible skips when movement briefly interrupts disc reading. A quoted time describes the stored playback reserve under the stated conditions. It does not mean the device can withstand continuous impacts for that duration or that recording is protected in the same way.
Compare the same mode, usually standard playback, and retain qualifications such as 'up to' or 'approximately'. A longer figure for LP4 is not directly comparable with an SP figure. A named anti-skip system without a stated time does not establish a duration, and buffer size does not measure mechanical ruggedness.
