S/PDIF Sync Output

The number of coaxial S/PDIF outputs able to send a blank-frame synchronization signal.

An S/PDIF blank frame provides digital timing without music content. Coaxial connections may use RCA or BNC sockets; this entry does not describe optical S/PDIF outputs.

S/PDIF Sync Output — External Clock

For an External Clock, a coaxial synchronization output can supply timing to equipment that supports locking to an S/PDIF reference. The receiving input’s supported synchronization mode matters as much as its connector.

Read the figure as the number of outputs able to send the reference signal. A socket that only carries or reclocks incoming audio does not establish this function. Separate word-clock and 10 MHz outputs serve different signal formats and are counted elsewhere.

Compare the supported reference rates and the receiving device’s instructions before planning the link. A matching RCA or BNC connector does not make the formats interchangeable. The output count describes connection capacity, not the number of music channels or the quality of the clock.
