Glossary term

ST Optical Input

The number of documented digital audio inputs using ST glass-fibre connectors. One named ST input counts as one connection, not one audio channel.

ST describes the connector, not a universal audio interface. TOSLINK and USB audio inputs do not belong in this count. Proprietary links such as EMM OptiLink and Nagra N-Link are recorded separately under Proprietary Link Input, even when they use ST connectors.

ST Optical Input — DAC

A compatible source’s digital output feeds this input; the DAC converts the received audio into an analogue signal. Check both manuals for the supported interface, fibre cable, audio formats, sample rates and any clock requirements. A matching ST connector alone does not establish compatibility.

More inputs give you more connections, not a guaranteed sample rate or better sound. If the documentation says only “optical”, leave the ST count unspecified rather than assuming it means ST.
