Streaming Platform / OS

The streaming platform or operating system is the software environment through which a player accesses and controls music.

It shapes navigation, application support and the way local libraries or online services are presented. The platform name is separate from a list of individual streaming services.

Streaming Platform / OS — Digital Audio Player

On a portable player, the platform determines how you browse music and whether additional applications can be installed. A dedicated music interface and a general-purpose operating system can offer different controls even when both play the same audio files.

Compare the specific applications and functions available on the player, rather than assuming that a familiar operating-system name guarantees them. Application availability can depend on the software version and device support. A network connection provides access to the network; it does not by itself establish compatibility with a particular subscription service.
