Application
Subwoofer application identifies the kind of product and its intended setting, such as a standalone home subwoofer or a studio monitoring subwoofer.
The category describes how the product is sold and used. It distinguishes individual subwoofers from complete speaker packages, specialized installations and bass sections built into full-range speakers.
Application — Subwoofer
A standalone home subwoofer belongs to the hi-fi category whether used for music or films. Studio identifies equipment intended for recording, mixing, mastering or broadcast monitoring. This distinction helps you compare products with the same role before checking their connections, output and room requirements.
Compare a separate subwoofer with another separate subwoofer, rather than treating a surround package or desktop speaker set as equivalent. Soundbar-specific, in-wall, outdoor, vehicle and PA designs have distinct applications. A powered bass section inside a full-range speaker is not a separate subwoofer, and a home model mentioned in a studio setting does not automatically become a studio monitor.
