Surge Protection
Surge protection limits the effect of brief overvoltage transients on connected equipment.
The presence of protection is a feature statement. Its actual capability depends on the specified circuit, test ratings and protected connections; ordinary operating voltage regulation is a different function.
Surge Protection — Power Regenerator
For a power regenerator, surge protection concerns incoming transients and the protected supply paths. Rebuilding the output waveform and regulating its voltage are separate operating functions.
Check which outlets and connections are covered and retain any stated protection ratings. Regeneration alone does not establish surge protection, and a yes-or-no feature does not quantify the transient energy the unit can handle.
Surge Protection — Power Filter
For a power filter, surge protection addresses brief voltage spikes, while filtering addresses specified electrical noise. A product may provide either or both functions.
Compare the actual protection ratings and connection coverage. Noise attenuation is not a surge rating, and a fuse or overload trip alone does not establish transient-voltage clamping.
