Secondary Load (MM Input Load)
The load at the transformer’s output that its design is intended to feed, usually provided by an MM phono input.
The secondary is the transformer’s output winding. Its load is distinct from the impedance presented to the cartridge at the primary input.
Secondary Load (MM Input Load) — Step-Up Transformer (SUT)
For a Phono Step-Up Transformer, the secondary load is part of the intended operating arrangement. Many designs specify a 47 kΩ MM input, but the stated recommendation for the particular transformer takes precedence.
Read a fixed value, selectable loads or a recommended range. If capacitance or a minimum-load condition is also specified, retain that qualification. “47 kΩ” describes an impedance; it is not the transformer’s gain or a recommended cartridge coil resistance.
Compare the required load with the phono stage you plan to use. Additional loading resistors change the effective load and, through the turns ratio, the load seen by the cartridge. Do not assume that a matching connector guarantees the intended electrical conditions.
