Switchable Port Modes
Switchable port modes let a subwoofer use different enclosure tunings, usually by combining port plugs with matching electronic settings.
Modes can include standard and extended ported operation or sealed operation. The physical port arrangement and the selected filter or DSP setting work together to establish the intended response.

The modes let you choose among the responses the manufacturer has designed for the cabinet. An extended tuning can reach lower frequencies, with a tradeoff in available output. Sealed operation changes the low-frequency roll-off and removes the port’s contribution; it is a different operating configuration, not simply a volume adjustment.
Compare response and output specifications in the same mode. Follow the prescribed plug pattern and matching electronic setting rather than blocking ports arbitrarily. Foam plugs supplied only to reduce room-related boom do not establish a switchable tuning system. The presence of modes alone does not identify one as best for every room.
