System Control Link
A system control link connects compatible audio components so they can coordinate functions such as recording, input selection or remote control.
These links use named control systems with their own compatibility requirements. A matching connector shape does not establish a matching protocol. The control connection is separate from the audio path, which may still need its own analogue or digital cable.
System Control Link — MiniDisc
A MiniDisc deck's system link can coordinate operations with compatible components, such as starting a recording from a connected source or sharing remote commands. The functions available depend on the link and the connected equipment, rather than on the MiniDisc format itself.
Compare the exact control-system name and the supported partner functions. A suitable control cable does not replace the digital or analogue audio connection. A wired remote-handset socket or a trigger input serves a different role. Do not assume that every component from the same maker implements the same link or all of its functions.
System Control Link — Digital Tape Recorder
A digital tape recorder may use a system-control connection to coordinate recording or remote operation within a compatible component system. This can simplify starting and stopping a transfer, but it does not determine whether the digital audio formats or copy-management conditions permit that transfer.
Compare the named control link and the functions supported by both devices. Check the separate audio connection, sample-rate compatibility and recording mode as well. A socket for one wired remote is not automatically a component-control bus. Matching plugs or manufacturer names alone do not establish that two control implementations can communicate.
System Control Link — Cassette Deck
A cassette deck's system link may let another component start synchronized recording, select the appropriate input or relay remote commands. It concerns coordination between equipment; recording audio still arrives through the deck's signal inputs. The particular link determines which operations can be shared.
Compare the exact system name and documented partner compatibility, including any required cable or connection order. A trigger that merely switches power is not equivalent to a control bus. Nor does a remote-handset socket prove system integration. A link labelled for synchronized recording does not by itself provide every timer or automatic recording feature.
