Tape EQ Adjustment
Tape preamp adjustments are the user controls for trimming playback response or output level beyond selecting the basic tape equalization curve.
High- and low-frequency EQ trims alter parts of the playback response. Gain or level trim adjusts output, while a fixed design provides no user adjustment of either equalization or gain.

The controls allow the playback electronics to be aligned with the head and a reference tape. An HF trim can change the upper-frequency response; an LF trim addresses the lower range. Separate level controls can help match channel output. Their presence does not tell you the adjustment range or calibration method.
Compare the available controls, their range and the manufacturer’s alignment procedure. Choosing NAB, IEC or AES selects a basic curve; it is not an additional response trim. Head loading is also a separate setting. A gain adjustment changes level and does not by itself correct frequency response.
