Tape EQ Settings
Tape EQ settings identify the tape-speed and playback-equalization combinations available on an external tape-head preamplifier.
The required correction depends on both the recording curve and tape speed. Matching only a curve name can therefore be insufficient. Preset combinations, freely adjustable curves and versions built on request offer different kinds of flexibility.
Tape EQ Settings — Tape Preamp
The preamplifier must apply the correction appropriate to the tape being played at the transport's selected speed. A 15 ips IEC setting is a specific combination, not simply an indication that both IEC and 15 ips appear somewhere in the specification. NAB and IEC2 name the same listed family; IEC, CCIR and IEC1 identify the other.
Compare the exact speed-and-curve pairs you need, including AES or custom settings where specified. Confirm whether an option is fitted, user-selectable or built on request. A small trim around a standard curve is not a freely adjustable equalization system or an additional preset.
