Tape Types (Record)
Recording tape types identify the cassette formulations a deck supports when making recordings, such as normal, high-bias or metal tape.
The categories are Type I ferric, Type II chrome or high-bias, Type III ferrichrome and Type IV metal. Their recording requirements differ, so playback support and recording support are separate capabilities.
Tape Types (Record) — Cassette Deck
The list helps you choose tape the recording electronics can use with the appropriate bias and equalization. A metal playback setting alone does not show that the deck can record on metal tape. Type selection may be manual or automatic; either way, the stated recording support is what matters.
Compare the supported recording types with the available calibration controls. A tape brand, cassette length or noise-reduction format does not identify a supported formulation. An included blank cassette does not prove broader compatibility, and a playback-only machine cannot make recordings simply because it recognizes several tape types.
