Transport Mechanism Type
The named drive or optical-reading mechanism used to read the disc.
The mechanism name identifies a component or manufacturer-defined drive design. It is separate from the loading method, a general construction description and the formats the complete product supports.
Transport Mechanism Type — CD Transport
For a CD Transport, a named mechanism can help identify the drive implementation and distinguish versions of a product. It may be useful when consulting documentation or asking the manufacturer about service support.
Read the actual published drive or pickup name. “Top loading”, “belt drive” or “precision mechanism” describes construction or handling without identifying a model. A name associated with another product should not be assumed to apply.
Compare the complete transport’s specifications and support information rather than ranking products by mechanism name alone. Different products using a related drive can have different electronics and implementation, and a shared mechanism name does not guarantee interchangeable spare parts.
Transport Mechanism Type — SACD Transport
For an SACD Transport, the mechanism identifies the named disc-reading assembly or pickup used in the product. It describes part of the hardware, rather than all of the transport’s playback and output capabilities.
Use the manufacturer’s exact mechanism designation where supplied. A tray design, disc clamp or SACD compatibility statement is not itself a drive model. A manufacturer name without a specific mechanism provides less identification.
Compare the name with documentation for the exact model and version, particularly when seeking service information. The mechanism alone does not establish multichannel support, supported digital links or parts interchangeability. Those depend on the complete product and its implementation.
