Digital Coaxial / Optical Output

Digital Audio Output counts a tuner’s coaxial and optical digital audio outputs for compatible audio equipment.

These outputs send digital audio rather than an analogue line signal. A separate DAC, amplifier or receiver must accept the connection and format before it can produce analogue sound. A coaxial audio output is not an aerial input, despite possible similarities in connector shape.

Digital Coaxial / Optical Output — Tuner

Check whether the total combines optical and coaxial sockets and which output types are provided. One of each gives two physical outputs, but it does not imply two independent programmes. The tuner may send the same programme to both connections.

Confirm which reception modes reach the output and the supported audio format. A digital connection alone does not guarantee that every source mode is available at every resolution. Volume may be controlled downstream rather than at the tuner, so identify the active volume control initially. Keep these outputs separate from any digital inputs and analogue RCA outputs.
