Glossary term

50 dB Quieting Sensitivity (Stereo)

Quieting sensitivity is the antenna signal level needed to achieve a stated reduction in received noise.

Here the reference is 50 dB quieting in stereo. The target quieting level and reception mode must remain attached to the input-level figure.

50 dB Quieting Sensitivity (Stereo) — Tuner

For a tuner, this describes the signal strength needed for a specified cleaner stereo result, rather than merely detecting a station. A lower required input indicates greater sensitivity under equivalent conditions.

Compare the same quieting target, stereo mode and measurement basis. Mono and stereo figures are not interchangeable, and usable sensitivity uses a different quality threshold. If levels are expressed in different units, retain the antenna-impedance and test conventions rather than comparing the numbers directly. Reception at home still depends on the antenna and incoming signal.
