USB Data-Rate / Version

USB data-rate version identifies the USB generation or transfer rate supported by a cable.

Connector shape and data capability are separate. For example, a USB-C cable can support USB 2.0 data rather than the higher rates available through other USB-C cables.

USB Data-Rate / Version — USB Cable

For a USB cable, the rating describes the data link it is designed to carry. The operating rate also depends on the host and connected device.

Compare the explicit supported rate and connector arrangement. Charging power, USB Audio Class and audio sample rate are separate properties; a faster cable cannot add a data mode or audio format that the connected equipment lacks.
