Vibration Isolation

Vibration Isolation indicates whether a rack includes features intended to reduce mechanical vibration transmitted between support and equipment.

Such features may use compliant elements or a decoupled support arrangement. Isolation is different from simply making a structure heavier or more rigid. The feature label alone does not quantify the reduction or identify the frequencies at which it is effective.

Vibration Isolation — Rack

The behaviour depends on the supported load, the isolation mechanism and the way the rack contacts the floor. Use the stated loading range and assembly arrangement; replacing feet or adding layers can change how the system behaves. Isolators may have a specified loading range separate from the structural weight limit.

Treat the feature as a description of a mechanical provision, not a guarantee of an audible improvement or freedom from all vibration. Equipment can also receive vibration through air, cables or other paths. Compare performance under relevant conditions rather than judging isolation from soft feet or spikes alone.
