Glossary term

Weight

Weight is the net mass of the component under the stated measurement conditions.

It excludes shipping packaging unless explicitly stated otherwise. Included accessories, batteries or detachable parts can affect which physical configuration the figure describes.

Weight — CD Transport

For a CD transport, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Power Regenerator

For a power regenerator, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Power Supply

For an external power supply, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Tape Deck

For a cassette deck, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Weight — Digital Audio Player

For a portable player, weight helps assess the mass carried with the listening system.

Check whether the battery is included and account separately for a case or attached accessories. Packaged weight is not the player’s net weight.

Weight — Music Server

For a music server, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Rack

For an equipment rack, net weight describes the rack itself rather than the equipment it can hold.

Keep rack weight separate from shelf and total load capacity. Check included shelves or optional parts when comparing configurations and planning the complete installed load.

Weight — Preamp

For a preamplifier, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — SACD Transport

For a SACD transport, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — MC Head Amp

For a phono head amp, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Power Filter

For a power filter, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — USB Reclocker

For a USB reclocker, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Super Tweeter

For a super tweeter, weight helps match a stand, shelf or other support to the actual load.

Check whether the figure describes one unit or a pair and whether stands or mounting parts are included. Packaging weight should not be used as the installed component weight.

Weight — Crossover

For an active crossover, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Reel-to-Reel

For a reel-to-reel machine, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Step-Up Transformer (SUT)

For a step-up transformer, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Streamer

For a streamer, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Headphone Amp

For a headphone amplifier, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Power Amp

For a power amplifier, weight describes one chassis, including when monoblocks are sold as a pair.

Keep a calculated half-pair value identified as calculated. Compare each amplifier’s weight with its support capacity rather than applying a pair total to one chassis.

Weight — Damping Base

For an isolation base, weight is the platform’s own mass, not its supported-load rating.

Add the base and component masses when checking the shelf beneath them. Keep the platform’s working load range separate from its own weight.

Weight — Phono Preamp

For a phono preamplifier, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Equalizer

For an equalizer, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Loudspeaker

For a loudspeaker, weight helps match a stand, shelf or other support to the actual load.

Check whether the figure describes one unit or a pair and whether stands or mounting parts are included. Packaging weight should not be used as the installed component weight.

Weight — Turntable

For a turntable, net weight is the complete component’s mass in the stated configuration.

Do not substitute platter weight or packaged shipping weight. Check whether the cover or other detachable parts are included when matching the turntable to an isolation platform.

Weight — External Clock

For an external clock, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Subwoofer

For a subwoofer, weight helps match a stand, shelf or other support to the actual load.

Check whether the figure describes one unit or a pair and whether stands or mounting parts are included. Packaging weight should not be used as the installed component weight.

Weight — Tonearm

For a tonearm, physical weight describes the arm assembly’s mass under the stated included-parts condition.

It is not effective mass, which describes the arm’s inertial behaviour around its pivot. Keep counterweight or mounting-part inclusion clear rather than using physical weight for cartridge-resonance matching.

Weight — Tuner

For a tuner, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.

Weight — Headphone

For headphones, weight describes the mass worn or carried in the stated configuration.

Check whether the cable and detachable accessories are included. Equal weights can feel different because headband support and pressure distribution differ, so mass alone does not determine comfort.

Weight — Power Cable

For a power cable, weight describes the complete assembly at the stated length and with its fitted connectors.

Compare equivalent lengths and configurations. A heavy cable can place mechanical load on an inlet if unsupported; mass alone does not establish current rating or conductor quality.

Weight — DAC

For a DAC, net weight helps check the supporting shelf or stand’s load capacity and plan handling.

Compare the same included-parts condition and keep shipping weight separate. Weight does not by itself describe construction quality or audio performance.
