XLR Balanced Input
Balanced XLR input count identifies incoming balanced analogue connections using the specified XLR fittings.
Most are line-level connections; a step-up transformer’s inputs receive cartridge signals. Digital AES3, power and unbalanced-wired XLR connectors are different interfaces.
XLR Balanced Input — Subwoofer
On a subwoofer, balanced XLR inputs accept the specified line-level signal from the audio system. They are separate from driver or speaker-level connections.
Compare input routing and the actual mono or stereo arrangement. An XLR fitting alone does not establish an independent channel, and digital AES3 or unbalanced-wired XLR inputs are different cases.
XLR Balanced Input — Power Amp
On a power amplifier, balanced XLR inputs receive the drive signal from a compatible preamplifier or source. Channel configuration determines how the inputs are used.
Compare the channel and bridging arrangement and retain the stated socket or pair basis. An AES3 digital XLR input is not this analogue input, and connector count does not describe input sensitivity.
XLR Balanced Input — Headphone Amp
On a headphone amplifier, balanced XLR inputs provide an analogue source connection before headphone amplification. They are separate from XLR headphone-output fittings.
Compare the actual signal direction and input-level requirements. A connector adaptor does not create balanced operation in an unbalanced source, and input count does not establish independent headphone channels.
XLR Balanced Input — Equalizer
On an equalizer, balanced XLR inputs receive analogue audio for processing. The outputs returning audio to the system have their own count.
Compare the channel arrangement and input-level requirements. Keep AES3 digital XLR inputs separate, and retain whether the stated number counts individual sockets or stereo pairs.
XLR Balanced Input — Step-Up Transformer (SUT)
On a step-up transformer, balanced XLR inputs receive a suitably wired cartridge signal. Supported designs can use three-pin XLR or a specified mini-XLR arrangement.
A stated stereo pair counts as one input. Compare the cartridge wiring and connector assignment, and keep RCA inputs separate even if the two types are selected one at a time.
XLR Balanced Input — Reel-to-Reel
On a reel-to-reel machine, balanced XLR line inputs receive an external analogue source for recording. Microphone-level connections are a separate function.
Compare the input-level setting and channel arrangement. An XLR connector does not by itself indicate line versus microphone operation, and digital inputs should not be counted as analogue line connections.
XLR Balanced Input — DAC
On a DAC, balanced analogue XLR inputs belong to a supported preamplifier or analogue-routing section. AES/EBU digital XLR inputs serve a different signal type.
Count a stated left/right pair as one stereo input. Compare the actual analogue path and controls; ordinary DAC conversion capability does not imply that analogue inputs are present.
XLR Balanced Input — Preamp
On a preamplifier, balanced XLR line inputs accept compatible analogue sources. A stated left/right pair represents one stereo input.
Compare selectable input sets and keep cartridge-level phono inputs separate. An XLR connector wired as unbalanced does not establish a balanced input merely by its shape.
