CD Transport
A CD transport reads audio CDs and sends a digital signal to another component for conversion into analogue audio.
The transport supplies the disc-reading part of a playback system. A separate DAC, or an amplifier with a compatible digital input, completes the conversion needed before amplification and loudspeakers. This separates the disc mechanism from the choice of converter.
Check the actual digital outputs and the receiving component’s inputs. Coaxial, optical, AES/EBU and other connections are not interchangeable, and supported formats can differ between sockets. A familiar connector shape alone does not establish compatibility, particularly for manufacturer-specific links or I²S connections.
Compare supported discs, loading arrangement, controls and the outputs you will use. A transport may offer additional playback or processing features, but these should be read individually rather than inferred from the category. Mechanism family and memory playback describe aspects of the implementation; they do not independently rank sound quality. If you want a direct analogue connection to an amplifier, a CD player with built-in conversion is the more complete product arrangement.
