SACD Transport

An SACD transport reads Super Audio CDs and provides a digital playback path for a compatible external converter.

The transport handles the disc-reading function while conversion to analogue audio takes place elsewhere in the system. Its usefulness depends on the complete connection to the DAC or other receiving component, not simply on both products having digital sockets.

Check which output carries SACD audio, in what format, and with what compatibility requirements. HDMI, I²S and proprietary connections can impose different conditions. A coaxial or optical socket does not by itself establish DSD output, and a familiar connector shape does not guarantee a compatible signal or pin arrangement.

Compare supported discs, stereo or multichannel modes, loading method and the connections you intend to use. SACD support does not mean that every recorded area or output mode is available on every connection. A matching transport-and-converter arrangement may therefore matter more than a headline maximum rate. If you want analogue outputs from the disc component itself, an SACD player adds the conversion function within the same product.
