Streamer

A streamer is a source component that plays music from supported online services or a local library through your network. It adds network playback to a system; its outputs determine which equipment you connect next.

If you already have a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC), or an amplifier with a suitable digital input, a streamer’s digital output can feed it. Analogue outputs require conversion inside the player. Products combining both functions are also covered under Streaming DAC.

What to check

Music access. Check that the player supports your music services and the way you store or share local files. Having Wi-Fi or Ethernet alone does not establish compatibility.

Outputs. Match a digital output to your DAC or amplifier input. Check supported audio formats for that connection, since different outputs can have different limits.

Control. Check how you browse music and adjust listening volume. App control, a remote and controls on the player vary by model. Confirm where volume is controlled before connecting the system.
